Fayoum Pottery
Fayoum / Tunis
"Abdelsattar Pottery workshop had set up his venue in 2000, Tunis Village, Fayoum, Egypt. He learnt the craft from an early age being an apprentice of Evelyne Porret, and since then, pottery had become his thing. He enjoys every bit of the process, from the shaping of the clay, burning them in a klin, doing their painting art, to finally getting them glazed. He formed a group of 12 artisans working in his workshop, a team of women and men who also learnt under the supervision of Evelyne Porret, the Swiss who came to Tunis village more than two decades ago and started seeing the potential of children’s primitive drawings and taught them pottery. And now the group exports their products to different countries. With all his hard work and dedication, Abdelsattar is now a member in the Syndicate for Fine Arts. Since 2001, Fair Trade Egypt has been working with him to assist in marketing his products to be widely known, providing him with a bigger oven, which increased his production with Fair Trade Egypt and other partners. For more than 20 years, successes have been spreading, with both of us dedicating to get the best out of our artisans and to offer them a better living standard that they deserve. "
