Abd El-Sattar Pottery Workshop

Fayoum Pottery

Fayoum / Tunis

Abd El-Sattar set his venue in 2000, Tunis Village, Fayoum, Egypt. He learned the craft from an early age being an apprentice of Evelyne Porret, and since then, pottery has become his thing. He enjoys every bit of the process, from the shaping of the clay, burning them in a kiln, doing their painting art, to finally getting them glazed. He formed a group of 12 artisans working in his workshop, a team of women and men who also learned under the supervision of Evelyne Porret, the Swiss who came to Tunis village more than two decades ago and started seeing the potential of children’s primitive drawings and taught them pottery. And now the group exports their products to different countries. With all his hard work and dedication, El-Sattar is now a member of the Syndicate for Fine Arts. Since 2001, Fair Trade Egypt has been working with him to assist in marketing his products to be widely known, providing him with a bigger oven, which increased his production with Fair Trade Egypt and other partners. For more than 20 years, successes have been spreading, with both of us dedicated to getting the best out of our artisans and offering them a better living standard than they deserve.
