Abu Tawila Women Group

Bedouin Crafts

North Sinai / Abu Tawila

Abu Tawila Group was established in 1999 in North Sinai, Egypt. Specializing in traditional Bedouin kilim making, the group employs unique techniques to create stunning, handcrafted products. Their artisans skillfully weave rugs, bags, and other items, preserving a centuries-old craft. The group consists of 25 marginalized women who sought an opportunity to share their exceptional creations with the world. At the time, women’s participation in the workforce was not widely accepted, yet they persevered and succeeded. Since its founding, the group has achieved remarkable milestones. For 25 years, Fair Trade Egypt and Abu Tawila Women Group have collaborated to achieve shared success. We have supported them in marketing their products, while they have continuously honed their skills and showcased their true potential. Over the years, their journey has been marked by ongoing achievements. Committed to empowering disadvantaged groups often overlooked, we stand with these talented women, ensuring they receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve in the market.
