Bedouin Crafts
North Sinai / Abu Tawila
"Abu Tawila group was established in 1999 in North Sinai, Egypt. They’re specialized in traditional bedouin kilim making, interesting techniques are being used to make stunning products of their own. The group creates handwoven rugs, bags, and other products all by the hands of Egyptian skilled artisans. The group consists of 25 marginalized women who were seeking an opportunity to be exposed to the world with their exceptional creations. Back then, women weren’t much preferred to be existing in the work field, but they managed to succeed. And since 1999, they’re making great success. For 25 years, Fair Trade Egypt and WAT have been collaborating for mutual achievements, we’re helped them with marketing their products, and they’ve been improving and showing off their real potential. And from that time on, more successes have been happening. As we care much about disadvantaged groups who are not given much attention to, we promise to be standing with deserved women and support them to rise in the market. "
