"Baddara is a social enterprise that was established in 2017, with the aim of empowering a group of Egyptian skilled women and exposing them to the market. In Baddara, they collect agricultural waste; from wicker, lemon palm, halfa plants, and banana leaf waste as basics raw materials to use them to create their magic. The project was rooted with a goal of training women from the village of Dahshour and to revive the art of rural embroidery. Since women empowerment is an essential part in Abeer Geddawy’s venue, the founder of Baddara, she wasn’t just focusing on building her name and become an enterpreneur, but she’s also strived to support young and skilled artisans who have become the dinamo behind her success. Along with their unique skills, women of the New Valley and Dahshour transformed nature-inspired motifs into a form of fine art. They had, at the speed of light, diversified and doubled in volume, and reached multiple markets. As Baddara being on track, the impact of and on women keeps expanding, by continuously integrating new beneficiaries on the training scene. Baddara and Fair Trade Egypt had started collaborating since 2019, and till this very moment, achievements has been enlarging. What we aimed at attaining was to support families live better, help them get fair jobs and offer them access to the real market. And fortunately, Fair Trade Egypt was and is still able to generate income to a large number of families. The artisans, with the continuous support of the founder and Fair Trade Egypt, were able to meet all our needs from women baskets, rugs, bags, and many more."
