Kendaka
Upcycled Fabrics & Glass
Cairo / New Cairo - Badr City
"The name of Kendaka was historically given to brave, strong and wise Nubian queens like the women artisans who creatively upcycle products. What artisans do is collecting glass and factories left overs and recycle them in order to reformulate them into a variety of products such as bags, coasters, baskets and many more. The group of women working on this project are all located in Badr City, Cairo. They do face seclusion and limited work opportunities due to their location, especially the women who seek safe and close jobs to provide for their families. The women in Badr community are considered the main pillar of the family and the superwomen behind this project. With the collaboration between Kendaka and Fair Trade Egypt in 2020. In Kendaka, their aim is to combine the passion for empowering women in isolated communities, and to reduce the harmful environmental impact of waste in Egypt. And with the support of Fair Trade Egypt, they fortunately are able to do so. And now, Kendaka's products are to be sold to the local communities and International market as well. Kendaka and Fair Trade Egypt's product development team worked together on a new Ancient Egyptian inspired collection which celebrates our common values. Also, helping women generate fair income to their families was and will always be our number one priority."
